Background
The Mudgee Small Farm Field Days have been held since 1977 and are the premier educational field days in the Central West of NSW.
Since the beginning the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days have delivered an outstanding range of free educational seminars, talks and displays to compliment the commerical exhibitors.
The field days today carrys on that tradition and thats what sets Mudgee apart from other field days events. We reguarly have visitors attend from all parts of Australia specifically to see the demonstrations and seminars every July.
Sustainable Building Program
We have expanded demonstrations and lectures this year with an additional learning site that has been developed for the Straw Bale Building section and a new Rammed Earth Building demonstration.
Straw Bale Building
Demonstrations with Frank Thomas from Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow, Strawbale Construction & Sam Vivers of Viva Living Homes.
Building your dream home, a garage, a shed, a wall, a store, a school or an office? Small or large, square or round, simple or sophisticated, residential, recreational, utility or commercial – the possibilities of building with strawbales are unlimited. Strawbale buildings provide us with a real choice to help reduce energy consumption when building and inhabiting our homes, places of work, education, play & healing. Combined with passive solar design principles, strawbale buildings require very little energy to keep warm in winter and cool in summer and are suitable for all different extremes of climates. Please visit our presentation for an introduction to strawbale construction with the opportunity to see a nearly completed teaching hall (classroom) and (sections of) sample strawbale walls that were built during our workshops at AREC.
Rammed Earth Wall Construction
Rammed earth walls are a sustainable and beautiful way to build houses and other buildings. Local Mudgee builder Justin Penney will be demonstrating the techniques in the wall building process over the days of the event.
Western Magazine Sheep Dog Trials
If there ever was a sport that spoke about our country way of life it would have to be Sheep Dog Trialling. It is a sport that relies on the bond between master and faithful dog to pit their skills against the wiley sheep pack. For spectators it provides great entertainment with the clear format and objective of moving the mob through the various tests. It is easy to see that attraction of this sport and there is no where better to see it than at the Country Energy Mudgee Small Farm Field Days. With the top three competitors in Australia in attendance of the two days, you can be sure to experience the skill of these competitors and there canine companions.
